What is your deepest fear?

This is a question Carter from the movie Coach Carter kept asking his basketball team players. The question would always come out of the blue.

Nobody understood why he was asking that and the truth is, nobody knew the answer or wanted to think about it. Until someone gave him a very unexpected answer…

I watched this movie eight years ago but I never forgot that answer. I remember thinking about it for days. And after reading Cristiane Cardoso's post "She is the light", I remembered it and decided to share with you.

Here’s the answer shown in the movie:

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It's our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. You playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give people permission to do the same.As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others".

What do you think it means?

What could it mean to you?

Share your opinion with us in the comments. I will be sharing mine this coming Monday :)

Fast and Furious 6 – Two reviews and a question

Since I watched this movie I’ve been thinking on how to best express my opinion about it, and I came to the conclusion that it is quite difficult to do it in one review only.

So I am going to write two: A good and a bad review.

Good Review

I’ve watched all the Fast and Furious movies, except the Tokyo one (for some reason I still have no interest in watching it) and when I watched the trailer of Fast 6 I immediately wanted to watch it. They were bringing the whole team back. They were even “resurrecting” Letty, which in my opinion was quite a stretch but a smart move nonetheless.

So I went to watch it and this is no doubt an action movie. It has action from beginning to end. From one scene to the next you find yourself at the edge of your seat or biting your nails, or wondering what’s going to happen next.

And it has a lot of funny parts, which is a plus in any movie. I laughed quite a bit throughout.

Everything else is the same as the previous five movies, fast cars, races, fights, you know…

That’s it for the good review, now moving on to the bad.

Bad review

The movie has no plot, no interesting story. The “plot” you see in the trailer is the one you will see in the movie. Nothing more, nothing less.

But there they are living the good life, enjoying all the money they stole in their last “job”, until the police comes knocking at their door asking for their help. These criminals are so “good” at what they do, that not only do they get away with whatever crime they commit, but they are also needed by the police, who apparently is not competent enough to do their own job. So now it’s criminals trying to stop other criminals… uh huh…

They portray the team of “good” criminals in such a way that they make them look good in the audience’s eyes. As if they have principles, as if who they are justifies what they do.

The guy says, “Everyone has a code. Mine is family”. Meaning that stealing, killing, breaking the law and whatever other crime you might commit is ok as long as you do it for family. Are you kidding me?

And the funny (for lack of a better word) thing is, after all their wrongdoing, they gather together at the table to have a meal and they all join hands and thank God for everything they have. WHAT? I’m not even going to say anything about that.

The Question

Fast and Furious has a lot more wrong messages. It has wrong messages all over the place. Everywhere. All the time.

If you’ve already watched the movie, can you guess what they are?

If you do, just leave your comments below.

Sure it’s a cool movie, fast cars, tough guys and all, but the core message? All wrong.

Oh and one last thing, does it bother anyone else that no one really cared about what happened to Gisele at the end apart from the Japanese guy, or is it just me? O_o

Why I'm writing about Twilight...

You might be asking yourself why I have decided to talk about Twilight here on my blog.

The answer is very simple. This is one of the most, if not THE most discussed movie nowadays. The love story has captivated people all over the world. Some hate it, most people (and when I say people I mean girls) love it and others are just crazy about it.

So, what's the hype all about? What is it about Twilight that has so many people infatuated with this saga for the last three years?

If you are a follower of my blog, you know that I strongly believe that you should THINK for yourself and not be influenced by the thoughts of others. It's like I'm often saying, if you don't think for yourself, others certainly will.

So, I'd like to draw your attention to the messages this movie sends out. As in most movies, there are always good and bad things you can get from them and Twilight is no different. So based on the fact that I have read the Twilight books and watched all the movies so far, I'll give you my opinion about what I think the good and the bad are.

My hope is that after you read my opinion, you might THINK and draw your own conclusions about it. My intent is that you learn to think for yourself and not let a movie, a trend or people think for you.

To those who say that this is a vampire movie and therefore it's an evil thing, here is what I have to say:

Is the idea of vampires and the fact that they feed on human blood something evil? Yes.

Is it absurd? Yes.

Is it real? No.

And because they are not real, I'll be able to write about it the same way I write about any other movie. There are good things. There are bad things. I'll show you both and you make up your own mind. You shouldn’t rely only on the bad things you hear about it, just as you shouldn't rely only on the good.

There are some people criticizing me for even talking about Twilight. Some are appalled at the fact that I even know about this story. Hello!!! I review movies. Will I not have an opinion on one of the most talked about movies nowadays?

If you don't like the movie and want to criticize it, you are free to say so in the comments below. If you don't like the movie and want to criticize ME, don't be surprised if your comment is suddenly removed.

So, come back next Thursday for the first chapter on my series. It's called ‘So the lion fell in love with the lamb’.

P.S.: Have you already guessed what is it I hate about this movie? I kind of gave you a hint today…

Incepted Saga Finale - Friends with Benefits

Please read the title of this post again...

Now, do I really need to say anything else about this movie?

No, but I'll say it any way.

If you are smart, you will not even want to watch this movie. I didn't and never will. Why would I want to pour pure garbage in my brain? Why would you??!!!!!

Anyone who tells you that you can have casual sex with your friend, not have any strings attached, not be emotionally attached, not have any kind of commitment, give yourself to whoever will have you and still go about your life as if nothing happened is sick, and does not deserve your attention. If you have friends who would do that, then perhaps you should consider getting yourself new friends.

I tell you, this movie makes me want to throw up!

It's such garbage!!! I cannot stand talking any more about it!

Once and for all, THINK. OR SOMEONE ELSE WILL DO IT FOR YOU... like these guys who produced this disgusting movie!

Incepted Saga - Something Borrowed Part II

Continuation from yesterday…

From the beginning, you root for Rachel, after all she is the one who met the guy, she had everything in common with him and Darcy comes along and just kind of steals him from her.

Although Dex is engaged to Darcy, he really likes Rachel. But wait a minute! What are you doing getting engaged to someone if you really love someone else? Well, this movie will give you the idea that it’s ok, it happens. Right.

Then, after a shared ride on a taxi, Rachel and Dex end up declaring their love for each other and guess what else? Sleeping together. Now there is this big problem: Dex betrayed his fiancée and Rachel betrayed her best friend. If you are a true friend, then you know that you NEVER, EVER even look at your friend’s boyfriend or husband in any other than just as your friend’s boyfriend or husband! That is, if you ARE A GOOD FRIEND.

But Something Borrowed hints that in this case it’s no problem and here are the ideas they use in the movie to justify and make you agree to this:

Rachel saw him first and Darcy ‘stole’ the guy from herGive me a break! If the guy really wanted to stay with her, he would have, despite of what Darcy did or didn’t do. It was his choice to stay with Darcy.

Darcy is just spoiledAgain, no reason to sleep with her boyfriend, after all Rachel continues to be friends with her in spite of her being spoiled.

They were meant for each otherThat’s all well and good, but it was no reason for her to just go and be with a guy who had a commitment with someone else.

He loves Rachel, his friend, not Darcy, his soon-to-be-wifeSo, what would be the right thing to do? Break up with the girl he ‘just realized’ he doesn’t love and stay with the one he does love. Don’t stay with both!

Darcy doesn’t love him Same as above.

Darcy cheated on himThey paint this really ugly picture about Darcy, that she doesn’t deserve him, that she cheated on him, that she is selfish, arrogant, backstabbing etc, which might all be true, but it does not justify what happens in the movie. Yes, you would like Dex and Rachel to end up together, but not by doing all the wrong things and not going about it the wrong way.

Do you want to know the ultimate lesson in this movie?

If you love someone and you feel you are meant to be together, you should do anything in your power to get the guy… even if he is somebody’s husband.

Now, you don’t realize that when you are watching the movie, do you?

THINK or someone else will do it for you!

Incepted Saga - Something Borrowed Part I

After many changes I had to make in my daily to-dos, here I am! I’m back and have many things to write about… I just didn’t get the chance to actually come here and post them :( How bad is that?

So, continuing my ‘Have you been Incepted?’ Saga, I want to tell you about yet another movie that falls right into the category of these kind of movies. In case you have no idea what I am talking about, please read my previous posts here.

The movie Something Borrowed is about this girl called Rachel, who has had this friend called Darcy, since her childhood. They did everything together and really loved each other, but had very different personalities.

Rachel goes to university and there she finds this guy called Dex, who is just like her, they become friends and soon she falls in love with him. Then, one night she wants to introduce her new friend to her life-long friend Darcy, but Darcy, with her charming manners, start taking over the conversation and Rachel’s new friend. So Rachel never gets to tell him how she feels about him and their relationship remains just as friendship.

A couple of years later, guess who Darcy is engaged to? Dex; Rachel’s love.

Ok, now that you understand a little bit of the story, let me tell you why this is NOT a good movie.

To be continued tomorrow…

Incepted Saga - Crazy Stupid Love Part II

Continuation from yesterday's post...

The problem is that many people will watch movies like this, they will laugh, they will get entertained, but if you ask them if they noticed any of the messages I mentioned here, they will say no. Do you know why?

Because these nasty ideas are sent in a very subtle way, you are not supposed to understand it like that. You are only supposed to see the comedy Steve Carell is bringing to the movie; you are only supposed to notice that Ryan Gosling is full of muscles. You are supposed to see how nasty the 13 year-old character is and only find him funny. You are supposed to feel pity on the poor 17 year-old girl who's in love with another woman's husband - who is way older than her by the way.

And if you do understand some of those messages, you are supposed to just think them silly... no one will copy what the characters in the movie are doing, right?

If you think that this is just a fictional story meant to just entertain you, you are being brainwashed and don't even know it! The fictional story has indeed served its purpose: To teach you something you never realize you learned...

There are people who are actually doing those things right now. Some might even read this and think 'what's the problem? That's what everybody is doing nowadays'.

But where are all these sick ideas coming from?

Wake up!

THINK or someone else will do it for you!

Limitless

This movie came out on DVD some time ago and I was never really interested in watching it, until a friend suggested it...

The movie is about this guy Eddie, who is a loser, not going anywhere in life, just going through the motions of everyday, until he is presented with a pill, that supposedly expands the full capacity of his brain, in other words, makes him really intelligent. I know, I know, sounds strange... But that's what happens, he becomes really smart and his life completely changes after that.

Fiction aside, what I really liked about this movie is the idea of how much a person can do and achieve in life when he just THINKS! The problem with many of us is not that we are not smart enough, is just that we are too lazy to think sometimes.

There's something the guy said in the movie that really stuck to me. As he was explaining the effects of the pill, he said 'my shyness, my fears are now gone'. Because he started thinking more, those things could not hold him anymore. How true is that?

If you THINK about it, shyness, doubts and fear are things of the heart and not of the mind. When you follow your reason and not your emotions, you can overcome those things; you can see that they just don't make sense and will never get you anywhere.

We should start thinking more and feeling less. That way we will achieve much more in life, much quicker.

All in all, a very nice movie. It certainly made me want to THINK more...
