Have you been 'Incepted'? Part II

Continuation from yesterday's blog...

So yeah, it happens all the time. It happens when you are listening to music, when you are watching your favorite show on TV and it happens when you are watching a movie... especially movies.

Let me explain it better. Has it ever happened to you that you go to the movie theatre and for some reason you don't feel like eating or drinking anything during the movie? You just want to buy your ticket, watch the movie and entertain yourself, but you DON’T WANT any popcorn or drink.

And so you go to the screen showing your movie, sit there and wait for the movie to start. It’s time for the ads and so a clip begins, it’s full of beautiful people such as yourself, having fun with friends. It’s a hot day. They are thirsty… Now, guess what they have in their hands? A bottle of coke… and then ever so slowly one of them take the bottle to his lips, you begin to see everything in slow motion, or is it really in slow motion? Anyway... very slowly he starts drinking that cold, delicious, perfect drink...

All of a sudden you start regretting not buying something to drink before the movie, you start feeling thirsty, you can even taste the coca-cola in your mouth, for crying out loud!

What is that???

That my dear friend, is planting an idea in your head that wasn’t there before, that’s ‘inception’ happening in real life!

Sounds dumb, doesn’t it?

Well, in my next posts I’ll be talking about three different movies that could do exactly that to you.

Stay tuned and you might realize that what I’m saying is not so dumb after all…

Have you been ‘Incepted’?

Have you watched that movie Inception with Leonardo DiCaprio? You should! It’s an excellent movie, very clever, the kind that makes you have your eyes glued to the screen from beginning to end. You really have to pay attention in order to understand it though. I just loved watching this movie!

So, if you understood the movie (lol) you will know that it centers around one thing: To plant an idea in someone’s mind and make him think that it was his idea all along. He will never even suspect that before the ‘inception’ happened he never gave that idea a second thought, all he knows is that he woke up one day with that idea in mind.

What if I told you that this happens all the time? It’s true!

Come back here tomorrow so I can tell you more...

Thor

Here I go again with another super-hero movie review lol
Thor is from another world and as the son of a king he grows up learning everything necessary to inherit the throne some day. He was taught the best lessons and received the best training. He knew how to use his authority as a prince; he was strong, skilled and influential.  He was good at fighting battles; he was brave and very intelligent. The problem with him is that he often followed his impulses instead of his head and ended up paying a high price because of it.
I really liked watching Thor – have watched it twice actually. I liked it because instead of focusing on the super powers and all the things that can be achieved through it, it focuses on the fact that if you are foolish, you can lose everything… regardless of how powerful you may be.
There is no nudity and no cursing in this movie, which is always a plus. It has the fights, the lessons, the comedy and even some romance for those of us who just can’t go without it when watching a movie. Nice combination, isn’t it?
Include Thor on your list of movies to watch and have a great weekend!

The Lincoln Lawyer

Whenever I really like a movie, it’s usually because of the following reasons:
  1. It has an intelligent plot
  2. The acting is good
  3. It’s intriguing
  4. The story develops nicely
  5. It catches your attention from the beginning
  6. It makes you THINK in order for you to understand it
  7. It teaches you something
  8. It’s a true story
  9. It has a message, you take something from it
  10. It’s not predictable
  11. You find yourself talking about it afterwards
There might be other reasons but I just can’t remember any others now. If you have any different reasons, please feel free to leave your comments below.
The Lincoln Lawyer has ten of the eleven attributes written above, it would have all of them except that it’s not a true story. But this is a very, very interesting movie! It tells a story of a rich guy, Louis Roulet (played by Ryan Phillippe), who is accused of trying to rape and murder a woman. This Louis guy is very rich and can afford any lawyer in the country to defend his case, but he chooses the not so well known attorney Mickey Haller(played by Matthew McConaughey). Mickey is the kind of lawyer who will defend anybody; regardless of the crime they are accused of and is known to succeed in most cases he represents.
Louis swears he’s innocent and so he hires Mikey Haller to prove it…  or at least that’s what you think in the beginning of the movie, but let’s just say that that was not his only reason for hiring him. But let me tell you already, you will have TO PAY ATTENTION in order to understand this part, but it’s totally worth the effort.
The Lincoln Lawyer has a nice cast, very intelligent plot, it’s intriguing and it’s definitely not predictable. It’s R rated though… I have no idea why. I’ve seen other movies that show horrible things and are still PG 13… But I thought I should let you know anyway.
So, let’s agree on something, shall we? Go watch The Lincoln Lawyer and then come back here so we can share our thoughts (I really like to do that… no wonder I created a blog about movies).
Go, watch, come back and comment.
We’ll talk soon!

Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon

This is one of the things I have in common with my husband, I really enjoy watching super-hero movies or graphic novels made into movies, or anything of the sort. If any super-hero kind of movie comes out in the theaters, there we go watch it. However, when the third installment of the Transformers came out, I couldn’t go and so I had to wait for the DVD to be released, which happened last week here in Houston.
If you are also into these kind of movies and are thinking of watching this one, you should watch the first and second Transformers so you can really understand where the whole story is coming from and also understand how thankful I am for not spending 10 bucks to see it in the theaters.
The movie starts by showing a girl going up the stairs of her house with a white bunny in her hand and wearing what seemed to be a man’s shirt and nothing but underwear on the bottom. Yeah, you can see a little of the girl’s butt… So, these are my thoughts right in the beginning of the movie: ‘Excuse me, I’m here to see robots or whatever it is that the Autobots are and NOT half naked girls! What does it have to do with the whole plot?’ Well, later on I find out the answer: NOTHING!
The character replacing the one Megan Fox used to portray seems to have been put there just to decorate the movie, it adds nothing to the plot or to your entertainment. She’s just there. And you know what they say, if it doesn’t add, it certainly takes away… at least that’s what they say in my country…
Shia’s character, Sam, is portrayed as a weak, unintelligent and uninteresting person, whose only mission in life now seems to be to make sure he stays with his girlfriend aka the girl with the butt showing in the beginning.
The whole plot is very weak, repetitive, confusing, predictable… which is very odd compared to the first Transformers. If you watched the first one, you might agree with me that the whole robot-could-turn-into-any-eletronic-and-cars-thing seemed to make a lot more sense then. The fact that Sam was just an ordinary guy, who didn’t fit with the other guys in school and could never do anything to impress the girl he liked, but who at the same time was chosen to do something very important, made the whole movie worth watching.
I can’t say the same about this last one. The second one wasn’t as nice as the first but it was still ok, but the third one? They failed miserably at it. Sure the Autobots fight quite a lot and there are lots explosions and things breaking everywhere, but I must say that although I do like to watch the fights and the action, I prefer movies with interesting plots and this one DOES NOT HAVE IT.
So, are you thinking of renting a movie to watch this weekend? Skip Transformers – Dark of the moon and choose The Lincoln Lawyer instead. Here’s a great movie! I will be writing about it on my next review. Come back soon so I can tell you more.

Contagion

When I saw the trailer I thought it was just another movie about a virus, where a lot of people die, the whole world is at the point of extinction... will they find a cure, will they not find a cure, blah blah blah...

And guess what? I was right, that's exactly it! I just described the whole movie to you!

You see these great actors, the scary trailer and you think they must have come up with something different, but no, they just cast the famous actors to get you to watch their ridiculous movie.

So to summarize, this is what I have to say about Contagion:

Great cast, non-existent plot, pointless movie, waste of time and money.

Do I need to tell you NOT to watch it?
